Book Publishing
Very often people do not realize how much work is put into writing and publishing a book. They simply imagine that the author had spent plenty of time to perfection his book, but readers do not consider the effort that is needed to actually publish the book once the story has been told. Here one can read more about the process of publishing when it comes to book and all the effort that is needed for one’s book to get from the author’s office on to the shelf of the bookstore or library.
The process starts with sending the manuscript to a variety of publishers. This is an important battle because renowned publishers will only accept those manuscripts that they believe will sell. Thus, the story must have potential in order to gain any popularity among the publishers. After a publisher has accepted the manuscript then a process of negotiation is started. This process referred to the negotiation of the purchase on intellectual property rights and the agreement on the royalty rates. The royalty rates include the percentage of gross retail price that will be paid to the author and the advance payment. These sums can vary depending on the book and its estimated value but as a general rule the advance payment is a third of the first print run total royalties.
Then the pre-production stages follow. The book needs to be edited as to maintain a publisher’s editorial house, it must be designed in a certain way, a sales and marketing strategy is adopted and finally the book is printed. Printing is not however the last stage in the publishing process, but distribution is. During the distribution phase the book reaches the shelves of libraries and bookstores all over the country and only then readers can enjoy the story that the author was willing to tell several publishing stages ago.
